Rolf Schweizer, geboren am 16. März 1936 in Emmendingen, erhielt seine erste musikalische Ausbildung im Blasmusikverein des Dorfes Mundingen (heute Teil von Emmendingen). Er studierte Kirchenmusik in Heidelberg u. a. Rolf Schweizer starb am 6. Juni 2016 in Selb (Oberfranken). |
Rolf Schweizer was born on 16 March 1936 in Emmendingen, Germany. His first musical education was in the wind music band in the village of Mundingen (today part of Emmendingen). He studied church music in Heidelberg along with Wolfgang Fortner, Hermann Meinhard Poppen, Wolfgang Dallmann and Heinz Werner Zimmermann. From 1956 to 1966 he was cantor at St. Johannis Church in Mannheim and in 1966 was appointed District Cantor in Pforzheim where he stayed until his retirement. Schweizer was also active as a conductor of choirs, wind ensembles and orchestras. In 1969 he was appointed Director of Church Music and in 1975 he was appointed Cantor for the region of Mittelbaden. His compositions are mainly concentrated in the area of sacred songs, choral music for children and music for trombone. However he has also written works for choir, orchestra and organ. In 1984 the prime minister of Baden-Württemberg awarded Schweizer the title of Professor; in 1991 he was decorated with the Ring of Honour and in 1998 was granted the status of honorary citizen of the city of Pforzheim. Rolf Schweizer died on June 6, 2016 in Selb (Upper Franconia). |
